LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Sunday was move-in day for the newest class of Rebels at UNLV.
“I’m just excited to start my career, really. That’s a big reason why I picked here. I am here for hospitality, and it’s the best hospitality school in the country,” said incoming UNLV freshman Ian Wisniewski.
“College is really big,” said Leah Irbing with Capitol Moving Service, helping the students move in. “This is where you’re going to find out what you’re going to do for the rest of your life, testing the waters a little bit, and it’s actually really good to see them really excited.”
On UNLV’s campus, heightened safety measures remain in place following last December’s deadly shooting at Beam Hall, where classes will resume this fall.
UNLV has also added more officers, visible security guards and surveillance cameras on campus.
“During orientation and stuff, they went over a lot about safety, and it seems very safe,” said Wisniewski. “They’re doing the correct things to keep us safe here.”
“I like all the new security cameras they got in,” said Deshun Myles, a parent of an incoming UNLV freshman. “I’ve been watching FOX5 and seen all the new technology they got, so it will be fine.”
As they prepare for the first day of classes at UNLV on August 26, these freshmen will be meeting their new classmates, exploring their new campus, and getting acclimated to life as a Rebel.
