LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Greg Brown has lived near Rainbow and U.S. 95 for 17 years. He doesn’t like what he’s seen the last couple of years.
“Let’s clean up the debris. Let’s figure the problem out,” said Brown.
Brown called FOX5 to show us a lot of trash around Bonanza Bike Trail, including in a drainage area. A few piles of trash include shopping carts, bicycle and bicycle parts, animal cages, some tents and a lot of other trash. FOX5 did not see anyone sleeping in them during the visit and didn’t see any dogs in the cages, but Brown believes homeless people with animals are living there.
Brown says the trash started piling up a couple years ago. He says someone broke into his car back then.
“There were syringes in my car,” said Brown.
Brown says he saw a man using drugs this week in the middle of the bike trail.
“He was standing there while I was walking up and he looked up and noticed me and stopped,” said Brown.
Brown wants people to see what’s happening, hoping someone with authority can help clean things up.
“We need help, besides just who is going to get hired, who is going to running for office. Let’s do something for Las Vegas,” said Brown.
City of Las Vegas officials immediately responded when FOX5 reached out about the problem. They said citizens who have a similar issue where they live can reach out to City Marshals and the “conditions” team will check things. That number is 702-229-6444. They said in addition, unhoused residents can contact “MORE” teams to help them with resources, at 702-229-MORE (6673). More information can be found at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/homeless.
The city’s Public and Media Relations Supervisor also said he will pass on concerns about the bike trail trash to both groups.
