LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Valley is seeing another week of triple digit heat. And now some students and people on social media say some CCSD schools are having problems with air conditioning.
FOX5 saw some posts about air conditioning on a CCSD parents Facebook page. One person said Chaparral High School has had issues since the first day of school. FOX5 called the school Thursday, but was told it had no comment and referred us to CCSD.
Some students at Chaparral told FOX5 they have been sitting in hot classrooms and issues have persisted since the first day of school. One student said class was “uncomfortably hot,” while another said it was “superhot.” Other students told FOX5 the air conditioning was fixed.
FOX5 reached out to CCSD and specifically asked whether Chaparral High School is having air conditioning problems, but CCSD officials would not say. FOX5 also asked if other schools were having problems and requested a list of schools, but CCSD did not provide any names of schools.
This is the full response to FOX5 from CCSD’s Media Relations Department.
“The Clark County School District’s facilities staff monitors and conducts ongoing preventative maintenance to improve the performance and reliability of all buildings and systems.
CCSD facilities staff work proactively to identify possible issues before they impact staff and students in the classroom. Like homes and businesses throughout southern Nevada, CCSD facilities occasionally experience HVAC issues, especially during the hot summer months. When issues arise, technicians respond to schools as quickly as possible. When HVAC issues occur, school staff monitor building temperatures according to established protocols and take appropriate measures to ensure student and staff safety.
We communicate with parents using ParentLink if there are HVAC matters at their child’s school. We appreciate the understanding of students, staff, and families. Our dedicated staff does everything possible to ensure that maintenance and repair issues do not impact the instructional day.”
So far, there is no confirmation from CCSD whether Chaparral High School is having problems with its air conditioning system.
