LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Neighbors say five squatters were finally kicked out of a vacant home in the east Las Vegas after law enforcement obtained a warrant.
Neighbors shared photos of police surrounding the home and ordering people out. A neighbor tells FOX5, there were five individuals living inside.
FOX5 told you about the problem property in the Paradise township near the intersection of Pecos Road and Hacienda Avenue. According to neighbors, the property has been vacant for months, until people forced their way inside.
A search warrant was served on July 30.
“Due to the imminently dangerous conditions of the house… being occupied without power, water, and an accumulation of trash and debris, and human waste, Clark County Code Enforcement obtained a Search and Seizure Warrant from the courts to have LVMPD remove the occupants from the residence,” a spokesperson for Clark County told FOX5.
Neighbor “Nikki” tells FOX5, relatives raised concerns to 311 and the Clark County Fix-It App and were anxious for action after reporting the problem for weeks.
“They’d be half naked in the backyard,” the neighbor said. “I would smell stuff a lot. So then I’m wondering, is there a meth lab?” “Most people who live that way are desperate in some way. How desperate are they? Do they need food? Do they need money? Do they need drugs?” she said.
According to Clark County Assessor records, the home is in the name of a senior who is more than eighty-years-old; the home is also in a trust in the landlord’s name.
County officials said there is now a $1,350 lien on the home for the abatement.
Neighbors are glad the home is boarded up, but at least one tells FOX5, the perpetrators are known homeless individuals who linger in the area. Neighbors are worried they will target other vacant homes.
How do you report a squatter? LVMPD tells FOX5, the best way to do so is through your local LVMPD Area Command.
