Two storm cells have worked their way from higher elevations west of the valley across the 215 Beltway and into northwest Las Vegas as of 12:30 p.m. Sunday, National Weather Service maps show.
More than three-tenths of an inch of rain had fallen in an hour near Charleston and Rampart boulevards, according to the Regional Flood Control District. Heavy rain was also reported at Red Rock Resort.
A gauge at The Lakes had .28 of an inch of rain recorded by 1 p.m. and several others had more than a tenth of an inch as the storm crept northwest.
Two storm cells were north and adjacent to Interstate 15 at the Nevada-California line and moving northwest, but weren’t expected to make their way into the valley, according to the National Weather Service.
“These storms are staying to the upper elevations although the one did drop some heavy rain and some small hail in Summerlin,” said meteorologist Sam Meltzer. “They are generally pretty slow moving and die out pretty quickly, but we will have to watch the rest of the afternoon.”
