LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Since their arrival in Las Vegas, the Golden Knights have made as much of an impact on the ice as they have in the community.
Earlier this month, Kim Frank, the president of the Golden Knights Foundation, was honored as the Humanitarian of the Year at the annual Vegas Inc. Angel Awards.
“It’s really a recognition of seven years of effort and work,” explained Golden Knights President, Kerry Bubolz. “Over $15 million has been raised and given back to the Las Vegas valley community through a variety of different initiatives, all under her leadership.”
In the past year, Frank has helped raise money for a number of projects such as; the construction of the VGK ball hockey rink in the city of Las Vegas, aiding in the support of UNLV Student Service following the 2023 December on-campus shooting, helping in numerous player initiatives, awarding grants to local charities, securing a long-term financial commitment to support Cure 4 the Kids, donations of gas, meals, groceries, and toys to the less fortunate, as well as helping raise a new team dog in partnership with America’s Vet-Dogs.
“It takes passion, it takes effort and just a constant focus,” said Bubolz. “She has brought that to the table since she’s been here and we couldn’t be more proud, more excited for her to finally get some recognition that falls under the organization’s umbrella, but it’s nice for individuals who do all the heavy lifting and hard work, who are in the community every single day to get that specific recognition.”
In addition to her role leading the VGK Foundation, Frank is also the President of the Folded Flag Foundation, a non-profit created by Bill Foley that provides scholarships and supports grants to the spouses and children of fallen U.S. military personnel.
“Hockey is what we do, but that’s not how we impact the community; we impact the community in a lot of other ways,” said Bubolz. “The dollars the team allows us to raise, we wouldn’t be able to have the platform to raise that amount of money, so to be able to do that and then give back every single day with real dollars, real money it does make a difference. Under her leadership we’ve been able to do a lot and just really proud of her.”
