LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Summer heat is taking its toll on Las Vegas Valley trees.
The record breaking heat that we have endured since May have killed or damaged trees across the valley.
“It’s been a long hot season and we even broke some temperature records of 120 degrees or so,” according to Matthew Fichera, Regional Manager for Moon Nurseries.
There are steps residents in the valley could take to save our trees without getting hit with a high monthly water bills.
It’s all in the method of watering.
Don’t use overhead spray systems for trees, shrubs or flowers. Instead, use drippers..
They actually use less water and can penetrate deep into our soil to the roots.
“You need to water three to seven feet into the ground. If I take a hose and I water I can’t do it slow enough. I need to penetrate slowly,” says Fichera.
As for tree limbs that have died, Fichera says have them removed as they could be dangerous.
