LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 64-year-old man was killed while crossing the street in his motorized wheelchair on Saturday night.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred on West Sahara Avenue, east of South Valley View Boulevard, around 10:45 p.m.
Police determined that a 2010 Lexus RX was traveling west on Sahara at the time of the crash, while a pedestrian in a wheelchair was crossing the road outside of a crosswalk. The pedestrian was struck by the Lexus and immediately transported to UMC by responding emergency medical staff. He would later be pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene. Police say they do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash, though an investigation is ongoing.
“The pedestrian’s death marked the 90th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release.
