LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A driver is in custody and another is dead after a deadly crash in the southwest valley on Sunday.
Two vehicles collided at the intersection of West Desert Inn Road and South Lindell Road around 4:15 p.m., police say.
An initial investigation determined that, at the time of the crash, a 1992 Geo Metro was traveling south on Lindell Road, approaching a green light. A 2021 Toyota Rav 4 was also traveling westbound on Desert Inn, approaching a red light.
The Toyota failed to stop for the red light and collided with the left side of the Geo Metro.
The driver of the Geo Metro was immediately transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance, but would later die at the hospital.
The driver of the Toyota – identified as Nakira Pray, 27 – claimed minor injuries and was taken into custody after displaying signs of impairment.
“The driver of the Geo Metro’s death marks the 91st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release.
