LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Nevada prison is on lockdown after a fight led to the deaths of multiple inmates, according to corrections officials.
Nevada Department of Corrections said three inmates were killed in the fight and multiple offenders were injured at Ely State Prison. NDOC said nine offenders were transported for medical treatment.
No officers were injured, NDOC said.
The corrections department said they are not currently releasing the information on the deceased individuals.
Ely State Prison is in lockdown protocol following the incident. Other state prisons have been made aware of the situation but are not on lockdown, according to Gov. Joe Lombardo’s office.
NDOC Director James Dzurenda was at the prison Tuesday afternoon being briefed on the situation. Gov. Lombardo’s office said the incident was gang-related.
