LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An arrest report obtained by FOX5 details the arrest of a couple accused of stealing more than $650K from a Primm casino cage.
70-year-old Lydia Salmen and her husband 63-year-old John Salmen were arrested on Friday, July 19 at their Las Vegas residence on burglary and theft charges.
On July 18, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a grand larceny at the Primm Valley Casino and Hotel. Arriving officers learned that an adult female was observed jumping over the counter of the casino cage and stealing cash and chips.
The report noted that the cage had been unmanned at the time of the incident.
Video surveillance showed the female exiting the casino and walking towards the Primm Mall. The female was soon identified as Salmen when compared to additional surveillance video pulled from the previous month.
Police confronted the couple at their Las Vegas residence, and took both into custody. Both refused to speak with officers and asked for their attorneys to be present.
Approximately $625,569.47 in cash, $27,000 in chips, and coins were recovered from the couple’s residence, according to the report.
Additionally, investigators noted that the couple may have been motivated to commit the burglary to “pay for medication and/or bills that were beginning to rack up.”
Both Lydia and John Salmen are facing charges of Burglary of a Business and Theft, Greater than $100K. Both are also being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
