LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada has over 2,000 jobs that need to be filled. That’s why leaders are holding a two-day hiring fair here in Las Vegas.
Over 1,400 people signed up for the State of Nevada job fair, and 500 people walked through the doors Tuesday, according to Jack Robb, the Chief Innovation Officer with the governor’s office.
Robb says the job vacancy rate was at 24%, but now sits at 16%.
Still, several state agencies are looking to fill positions.
Jobs that are up for grabs include positions with the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the Department of Wildlife and the Department of Public Safety to name a few.
Robb explains they’re looking for workers of all skill levels. “We are hiring anywhere from administrative assistants, to nurses, attorneys, professional engineers, and every place in between,” Robb said.
As for the large turnout, Robb thinks he knows why people showed up with their resumes.
“One of the reasons you see as much participation as we have here today is the recent pay raises that just went into effect July 1st,” Robb said. “Those are key drivers in bringing employment in to be competitive in the wage category.”
Veterans can show up tomorrow at 10 a.m. Everyone else is invited from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The fair is taking place near Warm Springs and Bermuda.
In some cases, contingent job offers could be given on the spot.
The event is free and open to the public.
