LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles says they temporarily suspended “Walk-In Wednesdays.”
The service is closed at the Decatur, Flamingo, Sahara, Henderson and Reno office locations because of the summer heat.
The metro offices are moving Wednesdays to appointment-only starting July 10. Officials say it will be closed until temperatures become average.
“June was by far the hottest month in Las Vegas ever recorded,” said DMV Director Tonya Laney. “Customers continue to line up outside of our Las Vegas offices hours before the doors even open,” Laney explained, “and temperatures are soaring above 100 degrees before 8 a.m. We are noticing increasing temperatures in Reno and want to be proactive for our customers there as well. In order to limit heat exposure both inside and outside our offices, we have decided to revert Wednesdays back to appointment-based only. This is a temporary change until temperatures decrease.”
Officials say Wednesday appointments will become available on Tuesday afternoons. This is so the same customers who usually come on Wednesday have the same accessibility.
“Walk-in Wednesdays” began in 2023 to allow people to be seen at the DMV without an appointment.
