RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – NV Energy says it has begun de-energizing power lines as a way to reduce wildfire risk.
This move is undergone when an active wildfire moves too close to NV Energy equipment, allowing the company to make the most effective decisions and avoid additional fire risk.
The measures will mean NV Energy customers will experience more frequent outages from emergency de-energizations related to wildfires. The outages will vary based on the size, direction and location of the wildfire in question, and due to rapid response times for de-energization, it may not be possible to send customers an advance notification.
When this does happen, the outage will be updated via NV Energy’s outage map.
