LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A bicyclist is fighting for his life after being struck by two different vehicles in the southeast valley on Tuesday night.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred at 11:47 p.m. on South Nellis Boulevard and Mt. Rushmore Parkway.
An initial investigation revealed that a 1997 Dodge Dakota was traveling north of Nellis, while a 2010 Chrysler 300C was traveling south. A bicyclist was also traveling north against traffic when he crossed the raised center median and entered northbound lanes.
The approaching Dodge struck the rear of the bicycle and ejected him into the southbound lanes, where he was hit by the Chrysler.
Arriving medical crews immediately transported the bicyclist to Sunrise Hospital’s Trauma Unit, where he remains in critical condition.
Police placed the Dodge driver – identified as 44-year-old Anthony Wayne Tate – under arrest for DUI-related charges, and booked him at Clark County Detention Center. The Chrysler driver also remained at the scene but did not show signs of impairment.
“The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section,” police noted in a release.
After a four-hour closure, all roads surrounding the crash have reopened.
Tate is due in court on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
