LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Several Las Vegas Valley parents are making sure their children are riding safe ahead of Fourth of July.
Tuesday morning, Safe Kids Clark County partnered with Sunrise Children’s Hospital to give away free booster seats to families in need. It’s recommended children ride in booster seats until they are 4′9″ and weight 80 pounds.
The updated height recommendation went into law in Nevada in 2022. Tuesday’s event was to educate the public about the change and spread the importance of buckling up properly.
“Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for children,” said Jeanne Marsala, director of Safe Kids Clark County. “We want to remind parents that children need to be buckled up every time. Every ride.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says booster seats can reduce the risk of serious injury by 45 percent compared to only using seatbelts. More than a dozen new seats were handed out at Tuesday’s event.
