Whether you’re stopping in for a lunch, happy hour or a more relaxed dinner, M.Y. Asia has got you covered. The pan-Asian restaurant in Horseshoe Las Vegas opened a few months ago with PBS star and chef Martin Yan presenting a range of dishes inspired by his travels.
Inside the dining area you’ll find a range of décor from several Asian cultures, a modest dining area, bar and open kitchen. That kitchen is busy at all times, with prep work and noodle making—and that’s a skill that’s actually showcased during dinner hours, so pay attention!
I checked in at lunch recently, and of course, once seated, ordered a cocktail—the M.Y. Paloma, made with Patron silver tequila, Yuzuri liqueur, agave, and pink grapefruit. It makes for a light sip, as does the Lychee in Paradise, enlivened with Grey Goose La Poire vodka, elderflower, lemon and lychee juices and champagne.
Representing Vietnamese cuisine is the spring roll, a giant of a bite with vermicelli rice noodles, shrimp, pork, veggies and mint wrapped up in rice paper. It’s a super-fresh appetizer served with a tasty peanut sauce, and it can be made vegetarian. Other good starters are the pork pot stickers with house vinegar sauce and a green papaya salad bursting with fresh veg.
The lunch menu has four soups showcased, from classic egg drop soup to a Taiwanese braised beef soup. Classic fried rice is available in a choice of proteins—barbecue pork, chicken, beef or shrimp, but you’ll also find crab fried rice and the Street Hawker Pad Thai with shrimp, chicken, tofu, veggies and egg, topped off with crushed peanuts and lime. The pork chow fun has wide noodles and a light stir fry sauce, and is a pretty picture with colorful veggies accenting the top.
There are dishes inspired by several countries on the entrées section, from Mongolian beef to kung pao shrimp. Black pepper beef is served with beech mushrooms, while Thai yellow curry chicken is filled with chicken, potatoes and carrots in a rich sauce.
And if the lychee panna cotta is available, do squeeze it in. It’s creamy and has a delightful, light flavor.
