LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police have begun confiscating fireworks and handing out citations ahead of the Fourth of July.
While the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department did not reveal how many citations have been handed out so far, they say this is just the start.
As part of the LVMPD’s “You Light It, We Write It” campaign, officers have begun monitoring for illegal fireworks purchased and transported into Clark County. Fines for illegal fireworks start at $500.
“Our officers have confiscated entire truckloads, stacked floor to ceiling, and containers filled with fireworks that won’t be set off in neighborhoods this year!” LVMPD noted in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Officers will be out watching for anyone transporting or lighting fireworks ahead of the Fourth of July through the holiday.
“Some people didn’t get our warning! Don’t risk it,” the post read. “Don’t waste your time or money by purchasing these illegal fireworks and bringing them into Clark County.”
For those still looking for a colorful celebration, police and county officials remind valley residents that “Safe & Sane” fireworks will be allowed. These fireworks generally include sparklers, fireworks that keep to a small, circular area on the ground, and do not explode in the air.
Illegal fireworks include firecrackers, Roman candles, skyrockets, and anything made of highly combustible materials.
