LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 34-year-old man died Saturday morning after running a red light and colliding with another car in the west valley.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred around 7:33 a.m. at South Buffalo Drive and Alta Drive and involved a stolen Kawasaki motorcycle. The motorcycle was traveling north on Buffalo, approaching Alta Drive, while a 2002 Chevrolet Express van traveled south.
The crash occurred when the Chevrolet conducted a left turn as the traffic light turned red, and the Kawasaki also failed to stop at the red light. The Kawasaki struck the right side of the Chevrolet in the intersection, causing the motorcycle to overturn and eject its rider.
Debris from the crash also struck a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, which was stopped at the red light.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chevrolet’s driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
“The Kawasaki rider’s death marked the 76th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.”
