LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas boating group is providing an update on repairs after a massive fire destroyed dozens of boats and docks this past weekend.
Boating Lake Mead, the organization that overlooks Las Vegas Boat Harbor and the Lake Mead Marina, tells FOX5 that they are working to salvage the damage following Sunday’s fire. Once the blaze was contained, the National Park Service reported that 26 boats had been damaged or destroyed, and two people had been injured.
A majority of the damage appeared to impact the R-dock and the I-dock, both of which were partially closed in the days after the fire.
Now, harbor management says that the R-dock’s undamaged areas will remain open to the public, but can only be accessed via shuttle, which runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day.
Boaters are not permitted to hang out at the docks but can take boats out on the lake as they please. Additionally, boaters are asked to refrain from approaching the dock at night and avoid using lights or generators in the area.
Repairs to the damaged areas of R-dock are starting immediately. Updates on the repairs will be provided intermittently, according to management.
Damaged areas of the I-dock will also soon be open to the public. Boaters are also permitted to come and go as they please.
The public is advised to stay away from damaged areas of the docks, be aware of divers or crews, and following any verbal instructions given.
