LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Animal Foundation is providing an update on the animals seized after being discovered in a parked truck on Tuesday afternoon.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to the Mountain View Hospital’s parking lot around 3 p.m. after receiving a call about a dog locked in a U-Haul.
After breaking the window of the truck to gain entry, officers were able to rescue a mixed-breed dog from the front seat. Ten additional animals were discovered at the scene, including six dead dogs discovered in the rear of the truck.
Six living dogs and three living cats were also discovered by police, and handed over to the shelter.
According to the Animal Foundation, the animals seized are currently going through the evaluation process as they enter the shelter system. Veterinarians are still working to evaluate their injuries.
The evaluation process includes intake vaccines, a physical exam, placement into a kennel, and receiving food and water. A shelter spokesperson says the animals will also get a thorough exam by the vet team.
One suspect. identified as Christopher Winter, was arrested at the scene following the incident, and is currently facing several animal abuse charges.
He is due in court on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
