LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 61-year-old man is dead after colliding with a pickup truck in the east valley on Saturday morning.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the collision occurred on Fremont Street, north of East Sahara Avenue, around 7:06 a.m. An initial investigation was conducted, including evidence at the scene, witness statements, and surveillance footage.
Police determined that a male bicyclist was riding south of Fremont and made an abrupt turn to the west, north of a marked crosswalk. At the same time, a Ford F-150 had just completed a right turn from westbound Sahara onto Fremont.
The bicyclist then struck the right front of the Ford and was knocked to the ground.
Arriving emergency medical services transported the bicyclist to Sunrise Hospital’s Trauma Unit for treatment, where he would later die.
The driver of the Ford remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
“The bicyclist’s death marks the 75th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.”
