LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas charter school is planning to close its doors permanently this summer.
According to a letter sent to parents and families on Thursday, the school’s Board of Directors announced that they approved the surrender of the school’s charter and have begun the process of closing the school. The Nevada State Public Charter School Authority will review the surrender and decide to accept it on Friday, June 21.
“We are as heartbroken as you. We are acutely aware that words cannot adequately express the disappointment and sorrow associated with hearing that TEACH Las Vegas will cease operations after three years of dedicated service to the community,” the letter stated.
Board members cited numerous challenges that contributed to the decision to close, such as dwindling resources and the previously severed tie with the school’s management organization.
“As most of you know, back in October 2023, the school community was confronted with the potential for closure. It was only because of the extraordinary, greatly-appreciated infusion of resources and heroic efforts on the part of everyone, including our families, over the subsequent months that we stabilized the school operations, and the school was able to function and serve families through the end of the 2023-2024 academic year,” the letter reads.
The board admitted in the letter, however, that the challenges faced in October were never “fully solvable.”
Resources for families hoping to relocate their students will be coming soon from administrators, according to the board.
Board members also highlighted that another charter school is likely to reopen in TEACH’s current facility, but “sadly not in time for this coming school year.”
