LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A local antique mall is fighting back against thieves in a unique way.
Paradise Valley Antique Mall sits on Russell and Pecos. It holds 140 vendors, with each booth filled with individual treasures.
Recently, the mall’s manager Shelly Christenson says she’s seen an increase in theft, and thieves becoming more brazen.
“They’ll come in and help themselves to items and just try to walk out the door with them,” she says.
Which, she says, leaves a lasting impact on business.
“At times the vendors can get upset, and I don’t blame them, but they may decide to leave,” she says. “I had one recently that moved out, and they had a few things stolen.”
Christenson’s not sitting by and letting thieves have free rein. She posted photos of a man she says has stolen from the mall. Above those photos, “Thief” is written in marker.
“I hope that other people see that and not want to steal,” she says.
Since the photos went up last month, she says the so-called “thief” has come back for more. But, because his photo was posted, an employee stopped him in his tracks.
“One of the employees noticed him, she followed him, she kept track of him, and she actually asked him to leave,” she says.
The antique mall has also added more ring cameras in the last month for extra security. Christenson says they filed a police report with Metro Police when the theft occurred. FOX5 has requested that report.
