LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Music fans planning on taking a taxi to or from the upcoming Electric Daisy Carnival festival in Las Vegas should prepare to pay extra for transportation.
Taxi surcharge rates will be in place from Friday, May 17-Monday, May 20. Any drop-off at the event is subject to a $40 surcharge.
Taxi rides away from the festival will face a $60 surcharge. The matter of the surcharges was heard and approved by the Nevada Taxicab Authority last month.
Language in the text of the proposal indicated that the surcharge would be needed to “financially incentivize taxi drivers to work during the EDC.”
“Based on the experiences with the F1 Grand Prix, Super Bowl and March Madness, and discussions that the operators have had with taxi drivers at their respective companies, the operators proposed that the EDC Surcharge Fee should be fifty dollars ($50.00),” it added.
Taxi meters can be programmed to include a surcharge rate that activates when a driver enters a specified area during the EDC event. The surcharge pricing concludes at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 20.
