LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Weapons detectors are a step closer to reality in the Clark County School District.
District officials confirmed Tuesday evening that weapons detectors will be used at large-scale sporting events, like varsity basketball and football games, for the 2024 to ‘25 school year.
Officials say weapons detectors will also be used instead of hand-held metal detectors for searches of randomly selected campuses.
Data shows hundreds of weapons have been confiscated from Clark County Schools this year. So far in the 2023 to ‘24 school year, 285 weapons have been confiscated by CCSD police.
FOX 5 has been following this story since a technology company announced Tuesday morning that the Clark County School District awarded themselves and two other companies a $5 million weapons detection contract.
According to the announcement, the contract is with Remark Holdings, Alliance Technology Group, and Mcintosh Communications.
Documents confirm Evolv Technology is a manufacturer for Alliance Technology Group. Evolv weapons detection systems are used throughout the country, including in Baltimore schools and Nashville arenas.
According to FOX 5′s sister station in Nashville, WSMV, the detectors use AI technology to allow people to walk through them in real time without slowing down.
FOX 5 reached out to all of the companies involved in the contract for more information.
