LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Reno Aces (Micheladas de Reno) defeated the Las Vegas Aviators (Reyes de Plata) 10-6 in the opener of the seven-game homestand before a crowd of 4,480 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Reno improved to 13-14 and Las Vegas dropped to 12-15.
The Aces scored six runs in the second inning to lead 6-0. Left fielder Kyle Garlick was 2-for-5, triple, 3 RBI, run scored. Center fielder Albert Almora Jr. was 2-for-4, walk, RBI, two runs scored and shortstop Sergio Alcantara was 2-for-4, triple, RBI, run scored.
Las Vegas right-hander Aaron Brooks suffered the loss. He pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 10 hits, 7 runs, walked 2 and struck out 6 on 92 pitches (59 strikes).
Reno right-hander Humberto Castellanos pitched 4.1 innings in the no decision. He allowed 8 hits, 5 runs, walked 2 and struck out 6 on 95 pitches (58 strikes).
Aviators catcher Tyler Soderstrom was 2-for-3, HBP, solo home run in the fifth inning. Shortstop Logan Davidson was 2-for-4, solo home run in the fourth inning and designated hitter Carlos Perez was 2-for-5, two runs scored.
A double-header (games #2 and #3 of the series) is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:05 p.m. (two seven-inning contests).
