LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Firefighters and police are responding to a fire in downtown Las Vegas Friday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 1215 S. Las Vegas Boulevard, south of Charleston Boulevard. The area is near the Arts District and several hotels, motels, apartment complexes and chapels.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said they were responding to a barricaded person in the area, leading to several closures. LVMPD said a person has refused to comply with officers and SWAT is on scene.
LVMPD confirmed the barricade was connected to the fire investigation.
FOX5 has reached out to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue for more information on the fire, but has yet to hear back.
LVMPD advised avoiding the area due to police activity.
Just after 3 p.m., LVMPD posted on social media that a K9 on duty was seriously injured while responding to the barricade. Police say the K9 was airlifted to a local animal hospital.
Further information from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue reports the K9 was stabbed during this incident and no additional injuries were reported.
LVFR says the suspect was disarmed and is being transported.
