AGOURA HILLS, Calif. (KABC) – A Southern California man is suing a luxury resort hotel in Las Vegas after he says he was stung by a scorpion on his testicles while in bed.
Michael Farchi says the incident happened Dec. 26 while he and his family were sleeping at the Venetian’s Palazzo tower. He says he jolted awake from excruciating pain when he was stung.
“I woke up with a sharp pain in my private area. I was surprised. I didn’t know what is that. I reached my hand to see what’s happening over there under the cover, and I got another sharp pain, another sharp pain,” Farchi said.
Farchi says he was stung at least three or four times by the scorpion, which was about an inch long. Its exact species and the toxicity of its venom is not clear.
“I put my eyeglasses in. I was shocked that I have a scorpion over there, just hanging on my underwear,” Farchi said.
He was treated at a local hospital and filed a report with the hotel staff. He still had to pay for the room, he says.
“The Palazzo didn’t even apologize for what happened when I met with the hotel manager, and they just charge me for my room, the restaurant and whatever I used. No apologies. No nothing. This has made me very angry,” Farchi said.
He’s now suing the resort for an unspecified amount.
Farchi says the incident traumatized him, and he still has lingering medical issues months later.
“It is traumatizing until now, even today. I’m going to bed, I’m checking the covers and everything,” he said.
Farchi’s attorney, Brian Virag, says this is not the first time scorpions have been found in guest rooms at the Venetian.
The resort told a local TV station there are protocols for such incidents, and theirs were followed for this one.
